Nemacolin Woodlands Resort: Your Backyard Retreat

I recently escaped to Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania with my husband for the weekend. If you’re within driving distance to western Pennsylvania, I can’t recommend this resort highly enough! After some recreation and indulgence, and a little rest and relaxation, I felt recharged and ready to return to life in quarantine.

From the moment we arrived on the property, I could tell Nemacolin was making safety a top priority. As we drove up to the gate, a staff person greeted us, checked our reservation, took our temperatures, informed us of the property’s mask policy, and gave us directions to the front entrance to the resort. (Right now, the resort is open exclusively to overnight guests.) While Nemacolin cannot currently perform valet service, bellhops removed our luggage at the door and picked us up in an open-air golf cart at the nearby parking lot. Masked receptionists checked us in behind plexiglass barriers, and I saw hand sanitizing stations dispersed throughout the property. As Virtuoso guests, we were delighted to enjoy the extras of a room upgrade, early check-in and late check-out, two complimentary breakfasts, and a $100 resort credit.

Our well-appointed room was in the beautiful Chateau Lafayette, one of three accommodations options available on the property right now, along with The Lodge and Falling Rock. (Falling Rock, inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous home, Fallingwater, located nearby, offers a streamlined, modern, organic style and overlooks the golf course.) Entering the Chateau, modeled after the Ritz-Carlton Paris, feels like being transported to the grand hotels of old Europe, ordained with lavish and ornate details in marble and crystal. The guest rooms and suites are much the same, decorated with velvety soft furniture, large windows overlooking the natural landscape, and beautifully gilded chandeliers. In-room amenities—such as jetted tubs, plush bathrobes and slippers, and Molton Brown bath products—encourage you to relax and unwind.

Speaking of relaxation, you might, like me, want to use your $100 resort credit at the Woodlands Spa, where I had the most fabulous citrus essence facial—eighty minutes of pure bliss that left my skin glowing and rejuvenated. Here again, Nemacolin has thought of everything, protecting its aestheticians with masks and face shields and its guests with carefully arranged plexiglass. In conditions like these, why not treat yourself to a facial, a massage or a pedicure?

But if it’s adventure you’re after, not to worry! Nemacolin’s got you covered—whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with your children. In addition toWright’s Fallingwater, which is currently open for outdoor tours, why not take advantage of nearbyOhiopyle State Parkfor nature hiking or whitewater rafting? At the resort, make a reservation with the Adventure Center to play miniature golf, rent bicycles, zipline, or complete various ropes and obstacle courses, some designed especially for kids.

For dining, might I suggest Rockwell's, a farm-to-table style restaurant offering fine cuts of beef, wild game, and fish alongside locally picked vegetables and a truly extensive wine list? I had a wonderful heirloom tomato salad with house-made burrata to start, followed by delicious sauteed scallops while my husband enjoyed a sumptuous sixteen-ounce ribeye cooked perfectly medium rare.  We shared sautéed wild mushrooms and a decadent lobster mac & cheese. We have dined at the beautiful Aqueous restaurant as well in the past and truly savored our meals.

And if you find yourself at Rockwell’s for your complimentary breakfast in the morning, don’t pass up the yogurt parfait, if you’re in the mood for something light, or the banana bread french toast, if you’re craving something more indulgent.

Of course, Nemacolin is just one of many properties where I can offer you exclusive Virtuoso amenities to make your stay in your home-away-from-home that much more enjoyable. Book through my link above or directly through me.

Wherever you decide to stay, rest assured that, when you travel with Vivo Travel Design, you’ll always be treated like a VIP.
